Who we are:
We are the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). The institution was established in the year 2009 and formerly known as the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Water Division.
Our pioneer National Chairman was Engr Tunde Ajanaku, FNSE, FNIWE; the Past National Chairman was Engr. Jimoh O. Akinbowale, MNSE, MNIWE; Immediate Past National Chairman was Engr. Joseph Ezie, FNSE, FNIWE and the 4th and current National Chairman is Engr. Adekola Ogundayo, FNSE, FNIWE.
The association is in its infancy stage and still expanding and might reach many states within the next few years. At the moment, NIWE has establiched four (4) Chapters in the following towns of Nigeria, namely:
Abuja,Abeokuta, Uyo, Makurdi.
Other that have been scheduled for inauguration include:
Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Shiroro, Ibadan, Yola
The Development Partners of NIWE includes but are not limited to the following:
Federal Ministry of Water Resources, all State Water Boards, Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), all River Basin Development Authority, other Relevant MDAs, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Relevant Water Contractors/Consultants, Well-Meaning Individuals, Other Divisions of NSE, Chartered Institution of Water and Environment Engineers CIWEM), UK and other International Organisations.
WHAT WE DO :
Being a professional body, NIWE is involved in the following activities;
Organisation of Trainings, Workshops/Seminars, Public lectures, and Technical Sessions on water, public health, renewable energy and Other related issues;
Periodic Executive meetings;
Collaboration with local and International Partners to Organise Conferences, Exhibition and Seminars such as 2016 Water Africa and West Africa Building and
Construction Exhibition and Seminars ;
Establishment of Water & Hygiene Clubs in Junior and Senior Secondary Schools;
WASH outreach to Water clubs and Secondary Schools within the FCT;
Sponsorship of Award for best performing students in Science subjects in schools with Water Clubs;
Support NSE in visitation of NYSC Camps during Orientation;
Local & International Technical Visits and Industrial Visits;
Courtesy visits to Relevant Water and Public Health Related Agencies;
News Conferences on the position of the Association on Burning National Water Sector and other related issues;
Attend and contribute to public hearings of the National Assembly on issues pertaining to the water sector,
Organised the Institution’s Annual Conference and General Meeting; and
Participate actively in the activities of the Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE).
